Brutal Legend potentially getting a Wii release
News posted by Ryan on February 19th, 2009 at 11:58am GMTExtremely popular Nintendo blog GoNintendo has a pretty tasty scoop today concerning a number of EA’s and Activision Blizzard’s 2009 release schedules, courtesy of an anonymous source.
How exactly this person happens to have access to these particular two publishers’ information is unknown, but GoNintendo does place some trust in the source due to it being correct in the past.
The release schedule covers all sorts of games and platforms, but the most intriguing is of course the revelation that Brutal Legend is going to get a Wii version, and that all three will come out in Autumn 2009.
I’ll be getting the higher-definition version for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 I reckon, but if true it’s excellent that Brutal Legend‘s audience is being expanded quite significantly.
I’m not sure how I feel about this, and that’s coming from someone who still only owns a Wii of this generation’s consoles.
Brutal Legend is pretty clearly a game heavily reliant on the 360/PS3 hardware it was built from the ground up for, and I’m not just referring to the visuals. Last minute Wii ports of games that were intended to be exclusive to the 360 and or PS3 tend to turn out terrible, are vastly different games (and if Double Fine isn’t porting, who would want that?) or both. I love the Wii, it can pull off visuals that a lot of people wouldn’t suspect, and this is the type of game that the system desperately needs more of, but seriously, is this even going to work in such a way that will do the game justice and make anybody happy? See: the PS2 port of Psychonauts.
Obviously, anything that gets Brutal Legend to a wider audience is a good thing, but if this decision is true it’s clearly prompted by the Wii’s staggering install base more than anything else. If you want to port Brutal Legend to an additional platform, make it PC. If you want to port a Double Fine game to the Wii, make it Psychonauts.
Yeah, I definitely have extreme reservations about a Wii version. If it does turn out to be a poorly handled port, I’d hate to think people buy that rather than wait until they get a PS3 or 360 and then end up with a considerably tainted experience of Brutal Legend — sticking in their memory as a mediocre title for all time rather than a (Hopefully!) awesome one.
I dont like this, I dont like it wont bit. Much like the terrible PS2 port of Psychonauts this could slightly tarnish what is an otherwise AWESOME game.
Sorry for double post/comment, I notice the info was pulled down on the site, so its possible that some (or all) of it was not true.
as long as they utlize the wii controls for maximum interactivity, I’m for it.
The only version of Psychonauts I played I’ve played is the PS2 one, and I loved it. Just shows how good the Xbox one must be.
I"m playing for the story ! I have a Wii and dont care if the polygons are less smooth. Seriously. I’ll be happy I dont have to fork out for a new console.
