Official Xbox Magazine covers Brutal Legend

News posted by Ryan on January 14th, 2009 at 11:04am GMT

brutal_legend_20090116204008The official Brutal Legend site has been teasing us about a looming article in the next issue of the Official Xbox Magazine for some time, and as highlighted by Double Fine you can now grab it in the shops.

I believe the Brutal Legend article is in the US edition only, so if you’re on that side of the ocean be sure to pick it up. You might even want to go ahead and scan all the pages, then send them to me. Just a thought!

Update

[January 15th, 2008 at 12:00pm GMT+0] Chris Capel has just notified me that the UK edition of the Official Xbox Magazine is also sporting a Brutal Legend feature, although whether or not it’s identical to the US version isn’t known at this time. Any good magazine shop should have it in stock now, so go get yourself sorted!

Update #2

[January 16th, 2009 at 8:52pm GMT+0] Scans of both the US and UK Official Xbox Magazine articles are now available in the Assorted Images section, courtesy of the most excellent Chris Capel and Jaap Jansen.

A cursory look indicates that the actual content of the two articles is identical, although the layout is very different in each — I’d personally say the UK edition has the edge and is probably the preferable one to read. Of course, both have their own images, captions, and minor asides.

Telescope-eyed Chris points out the following little nuggets revealed in the article:

  • Eddie may have the ability to change his shirt, evidenced by the fact that he’s wearing different shirts in various screenshots
  • The Guitar Hero and Rock Band guitars will not be compatible with Brutal Legend
  • Plenty of new concept art

Jaap has noted in this post’s comments that some lines at the bottom of the US scans weren’t successfully included in the images, so be sure to read his comment to see what they were (some are exclusive to the US article).

No scans yet? *grumble*

I wonder if the Canadian one has Brutal Legend inside.

Apparently it’s now the most anticipated game of 2009. EA influence much?

I think he also said ‘demo’? Is there a demo? Should I weep with joy?

3. jaap 13 years, 7 months ago

the magazine comes with a demo disk. Nothing Brutal Legend related though.

The lines I missed while scanning OXM US:
18: Don’t Fret: Contrary to rumors, Brutal Legend will not use a guitar controller. Seems like someone noted the presence of a guitar as an in-game weapon and misinterpreted it as a Rock and thing.
19: Pipes: Rob Halford not only recorded the voice of General Lionwhyte, but he also belted out a wailing "Double
Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiineeeeeeeeeeeee!" for the game’s
loading screens.
20: Quality is job 1: The soft sales of Psychonauts have not deterred Tim Schafer. "As long as you keep making good games I’ve found you always get an opportunity to keep making them," he says.
21: Heavy Metymology: Steppenwolf’s "Born to be Wild" is the first lyrical use of the phrase "heave metal", but William S Burroughs used it as a drug term in two early-Sixties novels.
22: Pac-Man Fever: It felt good to make Tim Schafer laugh during our interview. It was just unfortunate that he was laughing at Dan’s choice for the first album he ever bought.

First off, I picked this magazine up a few days ago, purely for Burtal Legend, sorry I didnt have access to a scanner.

Anyways, It seems unlikely to have the ability to change shirts, as I just assume the character desgin has been slightly updated. You will also notice that Eddies Axe has been changed from the orginal batch of screens.

"The Guitar Hero and Rock Band guitars will not be compatible with Brutal Legend"

Awww… it would be awesome if you could use them but weren’t necessary so most people could play the guitar solos with normal controllers but people with guitar peripherals could actually play a face-melting solo while Eddie melts faces.

Thanks guys, i really appreciate it :D

Coggs – I’m not sure if he’ll be customisable, but I’m sure Eddie will change his shirt.

The Axe could be upgradeable too.

Hey Thrik, new info on Brutal Legend in next issue of Game Informer! Check me out.

Thanks Kroms, good to hear seeing as it was Game Informer that broke the news of Brutal Legend in the first place — it’ll probably be a good read.

As always, scans are always very much appreciated. ;
