Want to ask Tim Schafer a question?
News posted by Ryan on July 1st, 2009 at 2:05pm GMT
If asking Brutal Legend designer Tim Schafer something sounds like your cup of tea and you missed out on the E3 question extravaganza, you’ll be pleased to know that he’s doing a similar deal over on Eurogamer tomorrow.
As of tomorrow at 4pm GMT+1 you’ll be able to send your questions to one of Eurogamer’s moderators. Said moderator will then filter out the best questions and let Schafer answer them, hopefully resulting in a load of new and exciting info!
Be sure to check Eurogamer’s page for a link to the action tomorrow. I’ll also update this post with the link when it appears.
Update
[July 2nd, 2009 at 2:42pm GMT+1] With just 15 minutes to go until question time begins, the submission page is now available. You should register immediately to ensure you’re ready for the event, and then keep an eye on that page as that’s also where the answers will appear.
Update #2
[July 3rd, 2009 at 12:23pm GMT+1] It’s all over now, so be sure to read all the answers. Quite a few interesting things are discussed, although the thing that most people seem to be interested in is the confirmation that a PC version of Brutal Legend is not being developed at the moment.

These people gotta come up with some different questions!
their always asking what’s in the game, or what can be downloaded. what they should ask for is more pre-order or mega fan bonuses! we all do a lot of research (i assume) to stay in the know that we should be rewarded with more than just screenshots! and all pre-existing pre-order bonuses.
I think the game should be made for PC i don’t know about everyone else but i would buy it
I haven’t been so excited about a game since…ever, actually. That was back when i saw the trailer, i was convinced this was going to be a PC game above all else. Frantically searching for the announced platforms, i went through just about every site that mentioned the game, but all i could find was Xbox and PS3.
I’ve felt nothing but dissapointment about the game since then. Doesnt matter how great the idea is or how well it’s designed if I can’t play it.
Wow, with that comment in the interview I just lost all interest in this game. As awesome as it looks in the videos, and my all time Tenacious D man JB doing voices, I was so looking forward to this.
Now the director just cock punched the entire PC gaming community, thanks…
Well to be fair, the PC gaming community has cock punched Tim enough times by not buying his previous masterpieces. ;D
Ryan you moron…. video game piracy was in it’s infancy when Tim Schafer was making real games. God there wasn’t even internet you retard….Piracy had not even dealt an inkling of damage to Schafers previous titles.
Tim can suck my balls for turning his back on the community that put him where he is.
Here’s what Tim Schafer, the creator of famous Monkey Island series and other classics , possibly the greatest PC games made pre-2000….
“”Well it’s really an action game, that when you play it you’ll see that it was meant to be on a console,”
And because of this statement I am boycotting the game and anything Tim ever makes in the future.
There is no way Tim would prefer a console over a PC. I bet when he(Tim) said that statement he was actually thinking how awesome the game could have looked on pc but he is contractually forced to say consoles are better
I think he was actually just kidding to be honest, just like I was kidding with my previous comment. :?
Whether it’s released on the PC or not is clearly nothing to do with Tim, but he can’t sit there agreeing that it sucks it’s not coming out on the PC — so he just gave a tongue-in-cheek response.
Just to clarify though, I wasn’t referring to piracy at all. I was just talking about the general lack of sales his last few games have gotten, despite arguably being his best (especially in the case of Grim Fandango).
Well, on a marketing point of view, there is no reason why there shouldn’t be a PC version. It’s the most used medium besides TV today, and more and more replaces the role of a TV. I don’t want to buy a console even for such an awesome game if there’s an alternative.
But just secretly complaining about it won’t change anything. Be sure that I’m doing an angry E-Mail-a-thon complaining about the lack of a PC version. I’d be first in line to buy one, and when reading around the net, you see that it’s the most frequently used topic about the game.
From behind the glow of my computer monitor I’ve had to bare silent witness to the entire industry move away from the PC and towards consoles, but I never thought I would see the day Tim Shaffer followed suit.
PC-Gamers have to wait so long for a good game, so very, very long. We’ve been reduced to desperately rummage through the scraps of console-trash that the consoles throw to us from off the table.
Now, we have to swallow the fact that we’ll have to miss the newest creation of one the greatest game makers of all time. I never thought I’d have to swallow a pill like this.
I thought you broke away from LucasArts to give yourself the freedom to not have to conform to industry trends like this…
Why Tim? Don’t you like us anymore?
I think Tim would understand me when I say feel angry and personally hurt… I can’t avoid feeling as if I lost a good long-time friend that was a part of some of the most fantastic, magical and sometimes moving and intimate moment of my childhood (ok…and adulthood too :) ).
I will always remember those warm moments and good times…
R.I.P.
Tim Schafer On PC
Dear Tim,
Sorry, but I totally disagree. PC is the perfect platform for action games and sure as metal, that I will buy the PC version… Cheers from the Netherlands…
Gotta echo these sentiments. Although I do see that obviously some games are better suited to a console than a computer – AND that like Psychonauts, Brutal Legend is probably one of them… I don’t own or intend to own a console. So I guess it’s from a slighty selfish & stubborn standpoint I make these statements. However, I do think that as someone who has his largest following in the adventure gaming community (a community who are primarily pc users), and whose reputation has been built over decades in that genre, it’s a little sad our anticipation of latest offering from the master will not be rewarded, unless of course we shell out for a console. Sorry Tim, but as awesome as I’m sure BL is, I’ll do anything for love, but no, I won’t be doing that. On the upside for Tim, I think our pc griping wont harm sales at all, I wish the game every success. Perhaps if it does better than the underwhelming sales of the brilliant Grim Fandango we might be treated to a pc version next year. Fingers crossed.
i think there is still hope for a PC version aslong as the console version sell well (y) always keep the faith men (and women) :)
God is dead, and this proves it.
Phillipe: what kind of fuckin’ conclussion is that?
