Multiplayer tutorial video for your persusal
News posted by Ryan on October 1st, 2009 at 11:18pm GMT
I’ve just added a tutorial detailing Brutal Legend’s multiplayer gameplay to the ‘Videos’ section, courtesy of Electronic Arts. It showcases the broad variety of abilities available when participating in epic battles between the various factions.
Seems like it might be a video that’ll be included with the game itself as a quick primer for those who haven’t played through the single-player campaign, and as a result it does ’spoil’ a lot of the gameplay that’ll be available. If you’re sensitive to that kind of thing you should give this a miss.
Brütal Bus rocks the Red Bull Soapbox Derby

The Brütal Bus — a soapbox built by a bunch of dedicated fans based on Brutal Legend’s tour bus — was completed and went ahead and won the Red Bull Soapbox Race a few days ago. Take that, Yoshi!
Not sure why their official blog has been silent, but whatever the case Team Ironheade totally went for it on September 26th and was named overall winner of the derby. With a top speed of 46.1mph, the bus flew around the course and left the competition in its trail of awesomeness.

Demo release party on October 1st
News posted by Ryan on September 25th, 2009 at 10:25am GMT
Release party? Hellish ultimatum? Whatever you call it, Double Fine is hosting an event at its offices on October 1st when the Brutal Legend demo will become available to all. Dubbed the Brutal Legend Dem-o-Thon, tune in on the official Brutal Legend site to enjoy:
- Interviews
- Q&As with followers of the official Twitter feed
- Giveaways
- A message from Tim’s Swine flu proofed bunker
- Spoilers
- Live axe lessons
Swine flu? Oh yeah, that’s right. Apparently Ormagoden — the monstrous god that pulls Eddie into the mythological world of metal — is threatening to mess you all up and give you swine flu if 666 million people don’t play the Brutal Legend demo. So, better make sure you’re around at 12pm PST (midday) on October 1st!
There’s a short video promoting this event featuring Brutal Legend designer Tim Schafer and Ormagoden, so keep an eye on the BRUTAL! YouTube channel in a bit for a HD version.
Update
[October 1st, 2009 at 11:43am GMT+1] Don’t forget that the demo is out today — possibly already depending on your location — and the release party is in about eight hours! Keep an eye on the official Brutal Legend Twitter feed so you can ask the developers questions.
BRUTAL! joins the wonderful world of Twitter
News posted by Ryan on September 24th, 2009 at 12:15pm GMT
It’s become apparent that BRUTAL!’s lack of a Twitter feed is getting downright ridiculous, so rather than waiting until the introduction of the site’s new design it’s been put live immediately and you can now be notified of all future updates via Twitter.
What new design, you ask? Don’t panic — it’s not going to be too dramatic. The problem is that the general format of BRUTAL! has remained mostly the same since its launch, but the volume of Brutal Legend news and media has cataclysmically exploded.
The current design can’t adequately highlight all the new videos, images, etc that’re constantly flooding in, so it’s going to be shuffled around a bit and the front page is going to become more of a portal for the site’s various content; the site will also be better integrated with its various tie-ins such as Twitter and YouTube. It’ll retain a comparable look and feel, though. When’s it coming? Probably roughly when the game comes out.
But anyway, for now by all means follow BRUTAL! on Twitter and if you have any suggestions concerning the way it’s approached please comment. For example I’ve chosen to include Community Tracker updates on a trial basis, but if it seems too spammy I’ll have to reconsider.
Discover the world of Brutal Legend

I quickly threw this up on the Community Tracker yesterday, but if you missed it you would do well to check out Double Fine art director Lee Petty’s video which takes you through the epic world of Brutal Legend.
Showing off many of the game’s absolutely beautiful environments — as well as part of the sky effects video that was shown at GDC but never released to the public — it’s an absolute must for anyone who finds Brutal Legend a visually astounding game (How can you not?!).
Look out for a HD version on the BRUTAL! YouTube channel tonight.
