Gameplay video now available for download
News posted by Ryan on December 15th, 2008 at 10:43am GMTWell, the gameplay footage was shown as promised last night. Looks like the game is shaping up very nicely! You can grab the one-minute video from the trailers and commercials section, which features snippets of gameplay and in-game cutscenes.
Worth watching just as much as the trailer is the fantastic introduction by Jack Black, which I think can be summarised best with the following quote from Idle Thumbs’ Marek Bronstring:
“I can’t believe I just saw Jack Black yell TIM FREAKING SCHAFER TIM FREAKING SCHAFER and Tim being brought onto stage in a chariot, and then Brutal Legend getting plugged to the max. I love it.”
Yes, it really was that awesome — and he didn’t even mention the flamethrower! I was pretty taken aback by how OTT the whole introduction was; most appropriate for a game as brutal as this. For now I’ve only been able to find a low-quality recording of the introduction, so if you know of a better version please leave a comment or get in touch (it can be hosted here if it’s on your computer).
I’ll be sure to update the trailers and commercials section with the usual Flash version and such later today, as well as furnish the screenshots section with the new material; I’ll also be putting the introduction video up as soon as I can find a decent-quality version. Keep an eye on those sections during the next day or so!
Whoa! I have been quoted as a "source". A source of extreme fanboy reaction.
Yes, I thought you’d appreciate that!
Nice Brütal (!) fansite you’ve got going here, Ryan (Thrik, also, I believe?).
I had to watch the video twice just to make sure that really happened, Jack Black’s flamethrower gushing fire, Tim being rolled on stage in a chariot (or bring-out-your-dead horse-cart, possibly) and then the whole sacrificial scene. Mindblowing.
The new trailer itself seems just so-so, maybe this game is one for playing not for watching. Like Tim’s games before.
Yeah, I’d agree that Tim’s games are generally difficult to adequately capture in a trailer; some of the humour and whatnot was hinted at, but clearly a decision was made to focus on the action — presumably as that’d appeal to the types watching Spike.
I’m also sure the game will visually get tidied up as it grows closer to release. While the action looks good, when it zooms close in some cracks do appear. Still, Psychonauts came on quite a bit in the visual department between early screenshots and actual final version; it went from looking ‘pretty good’ to ‘gorgeous’ IMO. I doubt Double Fine will disappoint. :)
I find people put too much focus on the technical aspects of visuals. Really, when it comes down to it, the style of the visuals is more important than the polygon count of Eddie’s finger, and Brütal Legend’s style permeates that video like the smell of wet awesome on an oil rag, or something.
So… is the FAQ going to be updated with all the new goody publisher details? :)
(Man, re-reading the FAQ after the fact shows just how grim the status of the game was just four days ago!)
this is aWWsome this game is like rock and roll fanss fantasie land plus its got JACK BLACK who dosent love JACK BLACK yes ill sai it again JACK BLACK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
its good, that the vast-public now knows of the existence of this game… even though the trailer left me wanting…. *sniff* when will we see DIO’s character?
Such a great article which you can grab the one-minute video from the trailers and commercials section, which features snippets of gameplay and in-game cutscenes. Worth watching just as much as the trailer is the fantastic introduction by Jack Black. Thanks for sharing this article.
