GameSpot delivers seven new screenshots

brutal_legend_20090513233903Accompanying a fresh impressions article, GameSpot is premiering seven new Brutal Legend screenshots. They’ve been added to the ‘Miscellaneous’ gallery as you’d expect, where you’ll find the first ever look at General Lionwhyte with his long, luscious hair — plus some actual gameplay!

Some new characters and mental creatures are revealed, and all the shots seem to be taken around the extremely foreboding fortress first seen a week ago.

Also be sure to read the actual article because there’s some interesting gameplay info in there. Looks like there’s going to be quite some depth to the tactical side of battles, almost leaning upon real-time strategy game-like mechanics. But much more direct and brutal, naturally.

Thanks to Anders for giving me a buzz about this!

Has the story and gameplay changed?

When I first learned about this game, eddies wings seemed to have more significance. Even on the Wikipedia site, it said “Eddie’s blood hides secrets, and his wings are the proof” and that it “opens up new gameplay in the environment.” The year old article also said that this affects Eddies and Ophelia’s relationship.

Now, the wings are supposedly the result of “some sort of poison demon juice.” This implies a difference in my mind, that the wings can now only be used at certain times in certain areas where Eddie can find this juice (he also looks was more demon-ish then the fist time I saw the wings.)

Not that this bother me, I’m sure it will be fun; I just thought the idea of sprouting wings at any time would be really fun, and the story elements behind it seemed great, I’d be a little disappointed if they changed that.

Great article, one of the best in recent while, I was curious how the whole RTS-type battle system works. I was a little worried it would be far to RTS like, but this article puts my worries to rest and just makes it sound awesome!

That said. I thought it was impossible for this game to look more and more enticing every time I look at it, but it has. Reading about Brutal Legend, I realized how truly starved I am for something genuinely original.

As some are merely happy producing sequels and dry-humping tired old franchises; there are still game developers out there that seek to improve gaming as an art form.

Thank you, Double fine, in all your God-like awesomeness; for adding Brutal Legend to the our world.

I have expressed your exact sentiment on Brutal Legend Beeks and agree with it totally. I have been a video game for a long, long time, but I can only remember less then a handfull of times that I have ever been close to this excited for a game!

Also, Anal Gamer, I would assume the wings still hold some point in the story. “Poison demon juice” is probley just Eddies way of saying his blood is/gets tainted or something, remember he is being voice by Jack Black who often has a unique way of putting things. But I guess we will have to wait and see.

I was under the same impression Anal Gamer, so I would expect the demon juice to feature in the story to some significance. As Coggs said, perhaps “poison demon juice” was just a flippant way of referring to a relatively serious transformation!

Then again, it did seem to activate very conveniently in the first trailer. Maybe it becomes a bit of an addiction for Eddie, and that’s how it affects the relationship. :P

In the new IGN preivew that was just put up, which is basically a shorter version of the Gamespot one, it seems confimred that the demon blood/wings still has some story significants as it says something along the lines of “a demon who poisoned him earlier in the game”…however it also seems to imply that you cant just pop the wings out at will and fly around, but its more of an event based thing.
